DanceWorks Chicago is excited to partner with The Ruth Page Foundation on a new initiative, Dance Chance, a one-hour event designed to offer opportunities for choreographers to show their work informally, create a forum for dialogue among artists, and build audience for dance. Inspired by the concept of open-mic night, Dance Chance will be held once a month and feature 3 choreographers chosen by chance, each of whom will have a 15-minute time slot to share their work. To round out the hour, the final 15-minute segment will be a moderated meet-the-artist session providing an opportunity for choreographers to discuss their work and process as well as time for the audience to ask questions. At the end of each Dance Chance, the next trio of participants will be chosen from names submitted by choreographers in attendance. The event, held in the intimate theater of the Ruth Page Center, 1016 N. Dearborn, will be free and open to the public.
We are giving this new initiative a trial run with three dates on the calendar. Dance Chance will be held from 6pm-7pm on the second Monday of the coming three months:
Monday, March 10, 2008
Monday, April 14, 2008
Monday, May 12, 2008
Presenting work on Monday, March 10 will be our first group of Dance Chance choreographers:
Christina Ernst
Melinda Wilson
Ricky Ruiz
DanceWorks Chicago is inspired to experiment with this program to encourage creativity and a sense of adventure on the part of artists and audience and to bring communities together to learn more about each other. Please join us in this journey to move the art form forward!
